 TYPES OF LOGOS
There's no standard classification of logos that is adopted by majority of designers. The classification we provide here is just a naming convention we found useful for understanding your needs. By telling us which type of the logo you lean to, you give us a general direction in which we should think and therefore cut off the options that definitely won't work from the very beginning.
Graphical Logo
Graphical logos are those, which contain an integrated graphics of some sort as their primary visual element. Catchy artwork is easily noticeable and memorable, and makes your logo a great foundation for building a strong brand. Many largest corporations like Nike, McDonalds, Apple Computer or Mercedes-Benz use graphical logos. The symbols they use are so widely known that the logos can be immediately recognized, no matter whether they are used with the company name or without. Drawback of a graphical logo is that it requires massive advertising to build in the minds a strong association between the symbol and your company.
Font Logo
Font logos use fonts as their primary elements that draw attention. A unique font combined with the right colors and sharp-looking effects can create a high-impact design. A text logo is the simplest form of a logo and sometimes this can be a great option. This type of design can give you a "Fortune 500" look, because most major corporations, such as Sony, Xerox, Coca-Cola, IBM or Amazon use font logos. Therefore if you want to project the image of an industry leader the font logo may be the right choice for you. Meanwhile, be advised that font logos, as well as graphical logos, require more marketing effort to become widely recognizable.
Mixed Logo
If you want your logo to be well balanced, with both the graphics and the font playing equal roles in creating a visual impression and making long lasting effect then you need a mixed logo. Clean unique graphics draws attention and creates an immediate impression, while properly designed company name makes the logo better recognizable and memorable. Most companies in the world use mixed logos, as they typically don't require huge advertising budget to market, while allowing the company to better communicate its image and easier gain buyer recognition.
Illustrated Logo
Illustrated logo is a graphical logo that uses a complex visual scene or picture, typically directly communicating the nature of the business, service, or their most important aspects. Illustrated logo can be used when you need instantly convey service features and benefits, in order to call for immediate action. The major drawback of this type of logos is that they are usually worse recognizable and memorable. That's why illustrated logo is good when your business doesn't depend on repeat customers.

 IMAGE RESOLUTION
Image resolution is the amount of dots per inch (dpi) of a given image. Different applications require images of different resolution. Below is given the standard classification of image resolutions and their applications.
Low resolution
Most common low-resolution images are 72 dpi GIF and 72-150 dpi JPEG, which are used for Web and electronic communications. Image displaying capabilities of computer monitors are much lower than reproduction capabilities of professional printing equipment and even office printers. Therefore increasing resolution of the image that will be displayed on the monitor won't result in any visual quality improvement. At the same time images of lower resolution have less size that makes them faster downloadable over Internet.
High resolution
300 dpi or above images are used for desktop publishing, and professional or office printing. Most popular formats that are used with the high resolution are TIFF, BMP, and PhotoShop source PSD. Since high-resolution images cannot be resized and typically have huge size (both because of their raster nature), they are used mostly when it is impossible to create a vector image. Quality reproduction of photos, natural textures, and artwork with complex effects requires high-resolution bitmap formats.
Unlimited resolution
Put plainly, unlimited resolution always refers to vector files, which can be resized to any proportions without the quality loss. Print-ready EPS and PDF, source CDR and AI, and MS Word WMF files, all have unlimited resolution. Files with unlimited resolution allow printing the artwork with the high quality, whether you scale it down to fit a business card or enlarge it to place at a 24x8 ft billboard.
